SINGLE USE GROWN TREE HOLDS A VERY LARGE AMOUNT OF EMBODIED ENERGY
GROWING A TREE CONSUMES A LOT OF TIME AND ENERGY. THIS IS NOT INCLUDING EVERYTHING INVOLVED TO REMOVE AND DISPOSE OF THE TREE SEVERAL WEEKS LATER. THEY ALSO USE A LARGE AMOUNT OF RESOURCES SUCH AS LAND, WATER, FERTILIZERS AND PESTICIDES. PLEASE ADAPT TO OUR ENVIRONMENTAL CRISIS, OUR POLLUTION CHALLENGES AND MAKE THE DECISION TO PURCHASE A REAL TREE THIS YEAR!!!
According to the National Christmas Tree Association, there were 24.5 million real trees and 10.9 million fake trees purchased in the United States in 2012. This equates to a total of 35.4 million Christmas trees. There are close to 350 million Real Christmas Trees currently growing on Christmas Tree farms in the U.S. alone, all planted by farmers.
Key points:
• Dead trees pose a fire hazard
• Fake trees are made of plastic and derived from fossil fuels
• Real live trees continue to produce oxygen as well as absorb CO2 from our atmosphere
I wish there was a system established arranging for the pickup of live potted trees after the holiday season. Then transported to be replanted in (public land or national forest) areas that are either deforested or effected by forest fires. Can you imagine what we would accomplish if we all used live trees from the holidays in revitalization efforts, having a private company or government organization use them for something useful, meaningful and beneficial (to our society) after its single use. The trees would continue to provide oxygen, cleaning our atmosphere and create a healthier ecosystems.
These companies have the right idea (I've been saying the same thing for the last 3 years) we urgently need investors and business entrepreneurs to duplicate this concept around the world. http://photos.mercurynews.com/2015/12/04/christmas-rent-a-tree-lot-opens-for-season/#11
